Why do results fluctuate?

It is completely normal for results in Elonga to fluctuate. HRV (heart rate variability) and the activity of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) are very sensitive indicators that respond to a wide range of internal and external factors. Most users expect stable values, but in reality the ANS is a dynamic system that changes literally from minute to minute.

1. The ANS is a highly variable system

The autonomic nervous system is influenced by:

  • sleep,

  • psychological stress,

  • fatigue,

  • nutrition,

  • physical activity,

  • recovery,

  • and many subtle factors you may not notice.

For this reason, fluctuations are natural sometimes larger, sometimes smaller. Both are normal.

2. Your mental state strongly affects the measurement

Even small psychological changes influence ANS activity and therefore HRV. This can be caused by:

  • nervousness about the result,

  • being in a hurry,

  • expectations,

  • work-related stress,

  • or simply focusing too much on the measurement.

This is especially noticeable during repeated measurements or when thinking about “what the result will be today.”

3. External factors affect results before you consciously feel them

Typical examples include:

  • early signs of illness,

  • poor sleep,

  • late meals,

  • mental load from the previous day,

  • hormonal influences,

  • insufficient or incorrect recovery.

These factors can create significant jumps in values, even if you feel “completely fine”.

4. ANS reactivity is individual

Every person has a different level of nervous system sensitivity. Some users see smoother trends, others larger fluctuations. Both are completely normal.

5. Repeated or back-to-back measurements are not suitable

We recommend measuring only once per day, in the morning, in calm conditions. Measurements outside this routine or immediately after each other:

  • lose standardization,

  • may be influenced by mental state,

  • increase variability.

6. The trend matters more than individual values

Single values may vary, but what truly matters is the long-term trend, which shows:

  • whether resilience is improving or decreasing,

  • whether stress is rising or stabilizing,

  • how recovery is evolving — regardless of short-term fluctuations.

Summary

Fluctuations are completely normal because:

  • the ANS reacts to many factors simultaneously,

  • mental state significantly affects the measurement,

  • each body responds differently,

  • Elonga often detects changes before you consciously feel them.

Focus on long-term trends and measure under consistent conditions.
